His name at birth was William Leonard Roberts II in Coahoma County, Mississippi, on January 28, 1976. He was raised in Carol City, Florida, which is a poor area north of Miami. Ross listened to artists growing up like Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., Luther Campbell, and Ice Cube. He attended Albany State University in Georgia on a football scholarship for a year. For most of his time there, however, he wrote rap songs with lyrics that romanticized drug dealing, since he saw this activity regularly while growing up. As other rap artists have done, he took his performing name Rick Ross from a drug trafficker he heard about while growing up called “Freeway”” Rick Ross. He worked as a corrections officer in Florida for almost two years, but that ended because his past with fascination of rap music and artists led him in a different life direction. He appeared as a guest artist on Erick Sermon’s 2000 complication Def Squad Present Erick Sermon, on the track called “Ain’t Shhhh to Discuss.”His name appeared by being featured as Teflon.
One of the most memorable deals that Rick Ross has landed was partnering with the label of the sparkling rosé from the south of France called Luc Belaire Rare Rosé. The label was launched in 2011, and the wine jumped to number 23 in Wine-Searcher’s most-wanted list immediately after being registered to appear on search lists when it was created. This is the only sparkling wine from these lists that does not come from the Champagne region of France.
The wine Luc Belaire was the creation of Brett Berish, CEO of California-based Sovereign Brands. Berish’s bottle of wine has achieved success after being endorsed by Rick Ross. A rapper-based fan group has labeled people that buy the bottle of wine the “Black Bottle Boys.”
Ross has put the bottle vividly visible in his music videos, and has actively gifted the bottle of wine to family members and friends to raise awareness of the brand’s label.
In answer to a query about whether this controversy had given him pause for thought, Berish repeated his earlier quote: "Rick Ross and other celebrities who enjoy Belaire Rosé are both consumers and fans of the brand."
Jim Duane from Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA, buys the sparkling wine for his cellars and customers in CA, and reports that there is rising demand for the wine. He says that the wine is too sweet and out of balance for his personal taste, but that as a wine seller it is his job to simply sell the wine that people want. Berish, who created the wine, describes it in these words: “a rich, red-fruit bouquet with an elegant palate of strawberry and black current. It is dry and refreshing with fine, delicate-yet-persistent bubbles, and an elegant, smooth finish.” The wine is being sold in more than 40 markets globally.
Rick Ross is over 40 years old, but he is still strong on his game. He is still wearing fur coats, rare sneakers, VVS bling bracelets, Jesus piece gold chains, iced out jewelry rings, and smoking fine cigars.
